from another SFX experience:

i tried SFX a couple of times last year, the top two photos on
this link are from my very first roll, taken with rollei 2.8F:

http://www.shinozuka-family.com/2000.6july/2000july.html

the effect is somewhat subtle here... mostly a kind of glow
around everything. i took some beach photos later that summer
with a #25 filter and got some pretty dramatic shots. i've been
too lazy to scan and post them, but i will eventually...

i've never used "real" IR film, so i can't compare SFX against that.
in general you can handle SFX in the same manner as general-purpose film.

one thing to consider is that with the 8x filter factor of a #25
red filter, your EI goes from 200 to something like 25.

i'm going to play with SFX some more this summer.
