Actually it has being going on since the early 70's when I first got involved
with Leica stuff. I sent back two 28 Elmarits before I got a good one way
back then. My first R4 failed after two rolls of film. Dust, hair and bubbles
appeared in some lenses. But the good ones were and are so wonderful. Some
folks have said that the new lenses are relatively poorly made. That does not
seem to be the case with the 35 1.4 Summilux and the 100 APO, the two new
lenses that I bought last year. Also, Leica always repaired or replaced
without question. I am still into Leica after more than 30 years.
