There is no other information exchanged except when to fire the flash. The TTL circuitry requiresmore terminals and, on the F3, these connections are only available on the shoe around the rewind knob. Depending on the model of flash, Metz might make an adapter to allow the TTL function to work on your flash with the F3. Check their website. There is no way to use the SB-28 as a TTL flash on a F3 period. When you switch the flashes to TTL, they are not working correctly because they are receiving no TTL info from the camera. Therefore the recycle times are not indicative of what you might expect if the flashes were correctly connected to a camera they are able to work with.
