Seems like a quality control issue.

On mine (bought for a great price on eBay as a demo/refurb) the RF image was
*slightly* low, and the lens was never at infinity when the RF patch said it
should be.

Sent it off to a repair shop and got it back on Thursday.  Used it this
weekend and it worked great.
