Alexander III had three sons, Nicholas, George, and Michael (1878-1918). George died young. Michael was heir presumptive until the birth of the Tsarevitch, Alexis. During the course of his military duties, he became involved with the wife of another officer, Natasha Cheremetevskaya, by whom he had a child out of wedlock, George Brassow. Michael subsequently married her and returned to Russia, where he was executed by the Soviets in 1918. His son, George, died in a car wreck in 1931, so the woman's story, while unlikely, is not impossible; he left a daughter, Pauline Grey, who wrote THE GRAND DUKE'S WOMAN, a biography of the Countess Brassova, in 1975. Interesting stuff, and thanks for the opportunity for me to expand my own knowledge! Marc msmall@roanoke.infi.net FAX: +540/343-7315 Cha robh bas fir gun ghras fir!
