One is a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 98 and the other a Dell Dimension desktop running NT. I was told by several people (Nikon and our own ITS staff) that NT will not support USB or Firewire. As the Vaio, I upgraded to Windows 2000 for the scanner, and it has a Firewire port. However, after speaking with Nikon techies about segmented images (Nikon was quite helpful, by the way) I found out that the Sony Firewire port is not OHCI compliant, which is necessary for the 4000. At the suggestion of Nikon, I ordered an OrangeMicro OrangeLink Firewire PCMCIA card (which is OHCI compliant) and the scanner works perfectly. Adam
