The new style steel rings on the straps will wear out the old style 
brass strap lugs quite quickly, as the steel used is somewhat 
abrasive. Chromed split rings will let the lugs last a lot longer. 
Seemed obvious once Sherry Krauter pointed this out to me (got new 
steel lugs on my M4).
