The STA-1 (#14 636) made originally by Leica for the Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R
1:2,8/100 mm works great with the Apo-Elmarit-R 1:2,8/180 mm.

Even better than with the Apo-Macro, because with the Apo180/2,8, it
don't cover the plastic red index, the depth of field marks and is not to
close of the aperture ring.

The only (slight) problem is that the four white indexes (every 90°) on
the STA-1 are a little bit of (1 mm).

I don't think the STA-1 is available new anymore.

BTW, there is a RRS plate available for it..

IMO, the main advantage of the STA-1 with the Apo 180/2,8 is that it's the
palm which is supporting the weight of the lens instead of the fingers.
Handheld it's a great bonus.
