In the greater days of the Alpa and more currently with the Tessina and
Minox  , you could have your camera in silver  (chrome), black, red, green,
gold, and maybe some more colors....

It sold a very small number of very collectible cameras.  Given the
"specials" that Leica has offered recently, the market they are approaching
is the collector market, not the user market.  Or so it appears.

It is also important to remember that painting a camera with red polka dots
is a low R+D expense that does indeed sell more cameras at higher markups.
That profit then funds real (men's and women's) camera and lens R+D and
inventory buildup....

Ain't survival fun?
