As far as need goes, it is not the developer that will cause problems on its
own, it is more likely the film you use that will give you fits....if you
are going to use TMAX film, get a processor.  The film is extremely
sensitive to agitation and temp.  You will get inconsistent resluts with
TMAX and hand developing... ( Yes, I can feel the flames now).. per Kodak.
For sheet film, it is a must.

Having said both those things, the other choice is nitrogen burst agitation
in deep tanks.....costly for chemistry and equipment, it is a very
consistent process.
