thanks, I felt sure I'd seen the picture in one of my own books at home but 
I must be recalling this. I've certainly seen that book though don't posess 
it myself.
I think Agfa, France and the thirties go very comfortably together...

I shall hope to see you at the LHS Leica day on the 26th at Milton Keynes, 
if you're still going. I'm unable to make London on the two previous days.

Jem,
    The book  you were thinking of is "Celebrating the Negative" by John
Loengard published in 1994 by Arcade Publishing.
    The HCB negative is on page nine and the only edge marking is the 
number
39. As Tim Atherton point out when asked about the missing edge and 
sprocket
holes. the Master replies, "I swallowed them."
    My guess is it's Agfa, but it is only a guess.
