I agree with you, e.g the French Magazine: Chasseur d'Image.
They do not bring "more news" than what you get here on other mailing lists 
but they turn that into: "latest news from our special contact
or whatever".

BTW, CDI is really good in obtaining preproduction equipment to test
them before they are sold.
