That is NOT the primary argument that I have seen raised.  There is no
discernible difference in normal use.  But there is still a difference
which will be discernible when you are on the edge by using, for instance,
extreme enlargements.  To some of us, KNOWING there is a difference, even
one not noticeable in normal use, is enough to cause us to back off from
using filters.  This is precisely what Richard Knoppow pointed out on the
Rollei List and what Erwin Puts has pointed out at several points.  

The flare issue is secondary, but has been documented.
