How about these fine American examples:

Valparaiso             as in valpah RAY zo,  Indiana
Cairo                     as in KAY ro, Illinois
Pierre                   as in peer, South Dakota

and my personal favorite,

Grosvenor            as in gross VEE ner, Texas
