Thanks everyone for the comments.  In reference to your questions:

(1)    TMX developed for 36 minutes at 68 degrees.
(2)    1/15 sec and f/4
(3)    San Pietro in Vaticano
(4)    Four nuns
(5)    Entire contrast range is taken up with shadow detail
(6)    Ilford MGIV
(7)    G4 Macintosh and a ScanJet IIcx

There's no dark object - is it the gamma on your screen?
