The little known function of the red dot is for balance...similar to the 
weights they hammer on to wheels when you get new tires. Now all of Ted's 
shots will be out of balance until the dot is replaced.

As for the DOF thread, Winston Churchill said it best when he commented 
"Never before in the field of human conflict has so much been said by so 
few about so little."

Say, didn't Winnie have an M3?
