As such, it reduces surface tension in the water. If you have "soft" water, then a tiny amount of PhotoFlo will do thd job, and more than that will cause problems. If you have "hard" water, you will need more. Here in California where I live we have unbelievably hard water. It measures 18 degrees on the dH scale (DIN hardness). My brother who lives in Maine and who has a water softener in his basement to soften his well water has 1 degree dH of hardness in his water. If he developed film, he would need to use about 1/20 as much PhotoFlo as I do.
