Let me take a stab at "Elmar":

Elmar = El + Mar, meaning "the sea."

Perhaps the connotations were "with a depth of field rivaling the depth of
the sea"; or perhaps, "with this lens you'll 'sea' some improvement in your
photography"; or perhaps again: "'seaing' is believing."

Now, who'll have a go at Hektor?

Guy
L.A. (by the sea)
