Logan,

I don't think AF gives a greater number of outstanding photographs. I believe
what it gives you is more negatives in focus and that doesn't mean they are
outstanding.

May I quote a friend of mine, a pro news and sports shooter of many years
experience who said when his newspaper switched to all AF gear for their
photographers. " I now get 35 out of 36 frames in focus, but hell the images
aren't any better for impact, just more in focus. The best thing is, the "old
man" (their photo editor) thinks I'm finally learning how to be a great sports
photographer!"

So I suppose in that vane AF can mean more than outstanding photographs.;-)
