oh dear sweet jesus we can't let this happen again ...

i'm going to attempt a new technique here ... a little experiment, if
you will. if it works, i'll try to get an NSF grant to research it further
and develop a method for gently knocking OT threads back on topic.

carefully altering the OT post in my followup:

>I bought a bagful of leicas while I was working in Germany, many
>years ago, when the dollar was strong and the Mark was weak. I carry
>three in my pocket, M4-2, M5 and M6. I've nearly worn them out as I use
>them constantly.

i will then add an incendary comment:

"humph! i find it very difficult to believe that you can carry three
leicas in your pocket!"

now the discussion becomes not _are there_ any communists in the
united states congress, but rather, _how many_ communists are in the
united states congress.

then i follow that up with a wild rumor:

"i hear that tom abrahmson was making an external leica pocket that
attaches to any pair of pants and allows for the carrying of an additional
leica. i understand the project is so top secret that tom himself will
deny it until it's realease at photokina."

then i invite crazed speculation and follow up:

"has anyone heard about this new Hippocratus special edition M6 that is
only available to doctors? Is the emblem of the snakes wrapped
around the leitz logo actually engraved or just painted on the top?"

i learned it all from ceausesceau's DIE director, lt general, Ion Mihai
Pacepa ...
