The Emo company in Wetzlar is the firm that produces these items, and had a
stand at Photokina.

They produce nearly 20 different items including (stereo) magniying visors
for close up (repair) work, (big and strong) ball and socket heads, quick
release heads, a focuscope, stereo lupes and ordinary lupes.
They offer both a 10x lupe, which comes with two tubes, one for backlit
trannies and one transparent for reflected light/contacts at 238 Dm, and
the 'Classic' 5x Macromax, this comprises 4 lenses in 3 groups and holds
slides in a sleeve behind an opaque screen. My German is limited and cannot
decipher whether the end comes off to allow viewing with reflected light,
it looks unlikely as the base is black (aluminium). As has already been
noted the Leica version facilitates reflected light viewing as well so
seems to be a worthwhile design improvement.
Both of the lupes offer diopter adjustment . Price 318 Dm.

I bought the "Leica" Loupe many years ago, when it was known as the Macro
Max, from the manufacturer in Wetzlar. It is not a Leica made product. It
is re-labeled product from an optical company in Wetzlar.

Anyway, of the three loupes that I own, the best is the Schneider 6x ASPH,
second is the NPC 5.5x, and third is the 5x Max. Yes, the frosted end piece
for slide and strip viewing is convenient on the Max, but the image quality
is less than the two aforementioned loupes and the Max doesn't have a
translucent skirt for letting light hit the contact sheet image while you
are trying to look at same.

I use the Max to look at neg and transparency strips to find printable and
mountable candidates.
