Eclipsed Moon Rising

Tonight will be a special night for Moon-watchers. You'll see the Moon
partially steeped in shadow as it rises Tonight, the Moon passes through
Earth's shadow. Earth-bound observers will view a darkened Moon in the sky.

North American observers will not be a favoured position to observe this
eclipse. Sky-watchers in Europe, Africa, and Asia will be able to view the
entire event. Those of us on the East Coast of the US will not be able to
see the Moon completed immersed in Earth's shadow. This complete immersion
- -called totality- will be over before Moonrise.

Carpe Luna,
Michael E. Berube
