Basically, when it comes to animals, the only way to keep them from getting into that which is valuable is to deny access. (Keep the door to the room with the equipment closed) There is a product (a spray) for cats called "Bitter Apple", but in my experience it doesn't prevent animals from chewing on things. In fact, most of the products for animals don't do what they're advertised to do!
