Mine (late version) is definitely a user and I paid $400 for it.  It has bubbles and nicks in the finish and a couple of very light scratches in the coating of the front element.  In better condition I've seen dealers ask up to $1400 for the lens, but I think $700-$800 from a private party would be typical.
