The latest issue of Aperture is a must read....a fascinating piece about the fact that Gene Smith's widow has transferred the rights to his iconic Minimata photo to the parents of the now dead child in the photo - and they are against having it used, displayed in the future. In fact, Aperture could not get permission to print it with the article. Comments from a number of photo curators, historians, etc., on the public's right to see this kind of image v. the subject's privacy rights, etc. etc. Important stuff. There is also a piece on Chuck Close's daguerreotype work...and some other interesting stuff as well....Definitely worth the $14.95 U.S. B. D.
