Not on the R7 - unlike most/all earlier Rs (which needed just 3v) the camera is powered by the camera's (6v total) batteries even when the motor is attached. Don't get caught without a full change or two of all kinds of batteries with this camera - and a tool to get off the quick release plate on the motor if you use one, otherwise you won't be able to change the batteries in the field.
