I wouldn't call a five year campaign "like a hot knife through butter"

Not surprising when you consider that ranged against them was the whole
of the USSR and China and the British Empire (which in those days was
half the world), and the USA. Incidentaly, do you think it a
coincidance that the two axis powers of Japan and Germany at war with
virtually the whole world and despite defeat they picked themselves up
and are still today the only players in cameras and optics and a major
player in autos and electronics. In my humble opinion (spelt out) one
would have to wear blinkers not to recognise that there is something
special about the abilities of the German and Japanese people.

With respect

My family is from England and we have many gaps in our family tree
caused by German action. My mother in particular was devastated by her
losses so I was brought up to hate Germans. I mention this only
because it seems from the discussion that I am a lover of the German
army. I did, however spend nine years in the military and it did give
me a perspective of German equipment. In one word, it WORKED.
