I have pleasantly found that pushing HP5+ to 1600 does not make grain as bad as one would expect. I soup it in XTOL for 11 minutes at 27degC in 1:2 dilution. 400 film is easy to work with and very reasonably priced compared with the faster cousins. Push or pull it in both directions as you wish.
