Thanks Ferrel

My mistake the lens is a Focotar.

How hard are the Leitz 9X12 easels to find (whats a fair price)

Subject: [Leica] Automatic focusing with the iC enlarger

Since someone else is offering to send you the instructions for setting up
the
autofocusing on the 1C, I will just add the following basic requirements for
achieving autofocus:

	1. You must use a Leitz 50mm f4.5 Focotar, or an older 50mm Elmar
enlarging lens, or a 50mm Leica rangefinder lens, which require
special adapters. The common denominator is that the focal length has to be
precisely the Leica 50 mm focal length, whatever that is, and the
50 mm Leica lenses l listed above all have that. I don't know what a
Fotar
lens is, and if it is not a "Focotar", and if is even listed as 50mm,
it probably won't work throughout the full focusing range. Other brand 50mm
enlarging lenses won't work.

	2. The Focotars require the extension tube to work properly. I can't
remember the catalogue number.

	3. The pin on the column has to be in the proper hole. The upper
position is for use with a 25mm thick easel - i.e., a Leitz 9x12
inch easel. The larger (12x16 inches) Leitz easel is 30mm thick, and
requires a
5mm spacer ring on top of the pin to achieve the proper distance
from
the easel. IMPORTANT!!: The spacer ring is also required on later Focomat
1C
enlargers if you use the original Focotar with the writing on
the front of the aperture ring. The later Focotar lenses have the writing
on
the side of the barrel. The pin is placed in the bottom hole if you
are printing with the paper placed on the baseboard without an easel.
