Subject: RE: [Leica] Film megabytes and some curious contradictions

That post is not really complete. Not only does a lot of his math not
wash. I can't image how he multiplies to get 2.6M bytes for a 55lpm 35mm
scan... 55 x 25.4 x 2 = 2800DPI, so for a 35mm 2800 x 4200 = 11,760,000
even using his (curiously) low resolution.

Also, I don't understand his discussion of sharpening somehow comparing
developer sharpening to PS sharpening, since we are talking about scanning
negatives....which supposedly have been developed...so there was double
sharpening?

I'll review his assertions, and email him about my concerns...

Just as a note, if you follow the link to the discussion, others questioned
his assertions and arithmetic...but didn't catch the required
oversampling...so their numbers were off too...

Anyone interested in another view of the film/digital resolution debate
might like to check out this very clear opinion from another optics expert,
which also addresses the 'grid' question.
