John

I've been lucky enough to be involved with photographic teaching of
5/6/7/8th graders in urban schools in Rochester since I came here last
February.

Computers and digital imaging are commonplace. Most of the kids treat them
with a take it or leave it attitude. The atmosphere (literally and
metaphorically) of the darkroom is what get their imaginations fired up. The
look on the face of a kid that has just produced their first 10x8 print from
their own neg is something you'll remember all your life. (It's almost as
good as when they mat their first real print and see that in a frame - but
that's another story.)

Your son will pick up the digital imaging stuff elsewhere - give him the
'heritage'.
