Wet darkroom is easier, cheaper and generally of equal or higher quality especially if you are shooting the larger formats that you can't scan on consumer hardware. You can put together a wet darkroom in a your bathroom with a simple sink and a cheap Omega enlarger for a few hundred dollars. With this outfit you can print 16x20 from 6x6 negatives. To do the equivalent in digital is much more expensive and not all that easy. While Photoshop is a powerful tool that once learned can do most of what you can do in the darkroom and more, it is not that easy to use. For most of what you do in B&W printing, it's probably harder to get a particular effect in Photoshop than by traditional means. For these reasons, I would and did start a wet darkroom a year ago.
