Apparently the same folks that brought you the checked luggage film zapper,
now have a model that does the same thing for your handheld luggage. It is
not in wide use yet but you never know. It is important to alert the x-ray
operator to the fact that it is film they are looking at, by asking for a
hand inspection and showing them the film canisters in clear plastic
ziplocks. That way, even when they insist on running it through the machine,
they will not activate the higher film frying power x-ray when presented
with a bag full of suspicious looking cylinders.
