I'm hearing this often on this list and others. No doubt that it
prevents an aggressively offensive machine from fogging your film,
but I wonder about the necessity.

I returned a couple of weeks ago from a trip where my carry-on had
to pass through the machines four times. I was carrying about 200
rolls - the carry-on was stuffed with film as well as my cameras and
lenses. I just let it pass through the machines, even though it
meant a visual inspection at one stop anyway. No evidence of
fogging on the Supra 800 that I've developed.

Does anyone have any experience of ruined film having passed
through the carry-on check?
