Subject: [Leica] What a difference a millimeter makes

I have been testing out a couple of russian lenses on my barnack
cameras and have found out something interesting:

1. These lenses are optically quite good (compared with old elmars) but
mechanically leave quite a lot to be desired

2. Some of these lenses, like the industar 61 55/2.8 have a flange that
is 1 mm too short to accurately couple with the rangefinder.

I have been able to compensate for number 2 with a small strip of
masking tape used for painting very thin lines on model cars, etc. This
tape is exactly thick enough to compensate for the flange and allows the
lens to couple with the rangefinder perfectly.

Has anyone else out there on the lug noticed something similar? Is this
indicative of russian lenses in general or did I just get a bad batch?
