Considering what his book "Made in Canada" looked like which was sponsored by KODAK! Thought you might find this note I wrote to the editor of a Canadian photo magazine regarding Brian Adams photography in his KODAK sponsored book, "Made in Canada!" ========================================== Dear Ms.......................... This isn't sour grapes, as I've already proven myself worthy of being called a professional photojournalist and winner of the CAPIC, Lifetime Achievement Award along with Yousuf Karsh last year. It's merely to say how distasteful I find this "celebrity photographer" thing over many fine hard working and highly talented young Canadian photographers who deserve a break at having a book published.. My first reaction to Made in Canada? "Brian you should stick to music!" I'm sorry, but there are so many technically lousy photographs in this book it's a disgrace to the women portrayed and for the breast cancer cause it represents. Some images are so out of focus they should never have seen the light of an enlarger. What he should have done was stuck to his auto everything camera for correct exposure and images in focus, rather than, (His shoots involved "a bag of cameras.") Obviously several he had no idea how to use them properly, basically defeating the purpose of his work. When asked what his favorite camera was he responded, "My Leica hits the spot. It's gorgeous." If the Leica were his favorite camera my question is, "Brian why didn't you use it all the time?" Instead, he played with his "bag of cameras" resulting in blowing what could have been very remarkable photographs of very remarkable Canadian women! Ergo, more royalties created for the Breast Cancer Foundation! Sure there are some fine pictures, but on an over all look it doesn't wash! And if it were shot by a non celebrity, it would never have seen the light of day. No matter what the cause behind the book. Just my thoughts on what I had expected to be a fine piece of photography when I saw the cover. The only reason I purchased my copy? The royalties go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
