Although the media has made a large splash over what could be happening, reality, for me at least, was that nothing had really changed other than there were longer queues than normal at filling stations. Last night I went to a soccer game at Manchester United, the media reckoned it would be only a quarter full through people unable to get there (a lot of supporters travel long distance) but nearly 63,000 attended, only a thousand or two short of maximum capacity. One radio contributor (after the match) explained he was on his way back to Gloucestershire, 150 miles a way. As ever the speculation on possibilities, which masquerades as 'news', ends up being re-served as genuine news on the next bulletin elsewhere. Sad but true. E-mail is probably the only thing moving in that part of the UK.
