You have to differentiate between the finder and the "windows", which on 
later M4P's were the same as those on the M6 - not at all recessed but flush. 
 That probably indicates that the M6 top plate, or something very much like 
it, was being used, most likely zinc.  
The finder was always similar to that of the M6, except that a modification 
was made, apparently earlier than the top plate switchover, to the finder, 
which evidently both enhanced contrast and made the finder more susceptible 
to flare.  I have read that the mod involved removal of a condenser from the 
light path to the patch.  This info might even be somewhere in the LUG 
Archives.
