G'day Ken,

I don't believe we've heard this glitch before with the R8 and motor
drive, but my immediate advice is to pack it up, send it back to Leica
with your most detailed explanation of what happens.  Or have the dealer
where you bought it do that.

And even though you don't think it's a contact problem the chances are
it more than likely is.
