Dear All......
I was watching "RONIN" (again !!! ) for the first time on DVD..... there was
a special feature that provides a running commentary thruout the entire show
by the director John Frankenheimer...... It was really eye-opening..... he
explained how certain scenes were cut..... but more importantly, how and why
he wanted certain scenes to look a certain way ........

I thot a lot of them visual impacts were parallel to those of still
photography...... of particular interest was his keen interest in depth of
field........ he wanted to show so much thru one scene.... that's why very
often, there were always soemthing happening in the backgrd...... for eg,
another key actor would be in the out of focus backgraound... doing soething
that would give the viewer added info into the charcter and personality of
the character....... rather intersting.....

Also, the entire film was purposely edited to give muted colours and
tones..... there were no bright colours thru out the entire show..... even
whilst shooting, there was one person specially tasked to check the scene
for any bright colours..... if there was soemthing bright, they would
immediately have it removed....... the whole show was indeed in
monochromatic tones.. rather stylish I thot.......

To keep Leica content, the lead actor Robert DeNiro, was using a Leica R6
with a 80/1.4 lens (I think)... I think Deniro is a Leica user..... can
anyone vouch for this ?

Peace
