If he said this in 1987, then it might have been an exageration.
I don't think he had Leicas in 1987, unless they were loaned
out to photographers. He often gave cameras and lenses away to
young photographers who couldn't afford them. I can name at
least four...
There's an interesting story about his collection of Leicas in
Wetzlar in the 1960s....how he actually gave them away, sort of. Ed
