Subject: [Leica] Leica ace jean-loup sieff

Not to offend Arthur or Ted, but I've always thought Sieff's photography
was the absolute pits. At least Helmut Newton has a sense of humour
occasionally, like the picture of the girl being swallowed by a croc. I
can't see anything positive in Mr. Sieff's snapshots, except perhaps the
"craft", which would, I suppose, make him a _real_ photographer. Isn't
anybody tired of seeing juvenile fantasy female nudes? Very sellable, of
course.
When I first starting looking at pictures (about 70 years ago) I loved
Gibson, Friedlander, Winogrand, HCB and a whole slew of American "New
Colour" snappers. Out of that lot the only one who's still with me now is
probably Winogrand. He had a light touch and was a master of the Cairo
Quickstep. His zoo pictures and 60's party snaps are unbeatably funny.
Maybe we should have a list of of the three photographers we most hate -
that would be revealing, as everyone seems more or less to agree about who
they love.
Rob.
