Your distance from their culture allows you to see things that they would miss. When you show your photos to us, we understand them because we share a (somewhat) common culture. If your task were to explain the U.S. to people from the third world, you'd need to look at our culture through their eyes. To explain the third world to us, your eyes work very well indeed.
