Subject: [Leica] OT: Quality limits with Epson 1270

There has been considerable discussion here about the merits of the Epson
870/1270 family of printers. I have been given "clearance" to purchase one
of these as a gift and need to place my order within a day or so, but I
don't know if I can take advantage of the 1270's large print capability.

My scanner, a HP S20, will deliver 2400 dpi with 35mm film (from Leica M
and R). My question is
whether this scanning resolution is sufficient to produce a quality 11 x 14
image. My
calculation is that the final print will have about 218 dpi. Anybody have
any experience with "stretching" the digital image that much?

Thanks............Julian
