Michael:

Great story. I had forgotten about the notches except to id the film type.

I was not trained as a Army Photographer but was trained as a Military
Journalist/Information Specialist. Part of the training was photography ---
two weeks 18 hours a day in old POW cells converted to darkrooms near
Indianapolis. One of the things stressed that "the machine will get you."
At my permanent duty station, I used a Rollei and flash unit with a 15 pound
battery pack.My CO had a intense interest in sponsoring and promoting the
local Boy Scout Chapter, particularly when an Army "brat" made Eagle Scout and
to get all of the publicity possible. Well, naturally, that was when the
flash blew a condenser --- talk about a pissed-off colonel. Lesson? Carry a
few roles of the highest speed film possible --- and don't let the Air Force
labs do your critical processing.

Regards, Bill (who seems to have specialized in promotion and re-enlistment
pixes and what seemed like millions of Army hometown press releases) Larsen
