Subject: [Leica] M6 black paint

Hello

A quick question about black paint M6's

The paper work that comes with the Millennium black paint M6 (and also the info
published on the CameraQuest web site) states that it comes with a top plate &
strap lugs that are made from brass, but makes no mention of what metal the base
plate is made from.

Meanwhile, the info on CameraQuest regarding the LHSA black paint version states
that both top plate and base plate are black painted brass (strap lugs on this
version appear to be conventional silver chrome). Obviously the top and base
plate will wear at a similar rate and look compatible, which makes sense.

But, does anyone know whether the Millenium version also has a proper brass base
plate, or is it simply a black painted version of the normal M6 (I pressume this
is some kind of Zinc alloy).

If it's not brass, does anyone know why not (seems a bit tight fisted if it's a
cost saving exercise), and does anyone have any idea how it will appear once
black paint starts to wear off.

Any ideas appreciated

Sean
