OR...

pull 30% as for zone ugly, plus

shoot 1/250 @ f16 if the sun's behind you
1/250 @ f/11 if the sun's to the side
1/250 @ f8 if the sun's in your eyes and your subject is small in the frame
1250 @ f8 if the sun's in your eyes and the subject fills the frame

OR I also endorse the C41 suggestion, which works (on 400 film) wonderfully
with above exposures.
