After awhile, I could always tell the difference between a well-exposed and focused Leica vs. Nikon neg. The Leica neg almost printed itself, with a wonderful range of contrast and sharpness. From that time on, I knew I had to have a Leica. Soon the same photographers were upgrading to the new M4 bodies, and I was able buy a couple of well-used black M2's, ending up my year in Sweden with a great kit that also included the then new 28mm Elmarit, and used 35mm Summicron, 50mm Elmar and 90mm Elmar; all on my assistant's wages of about $1.50 an hour - amazing how much Leica's you can buy if you just stop eating and limit your social life to street shooting!
