The answer to your question depends upon what you think photography is and
is for - if its for recording pretty and pleasing scenes and life events,
then one certainly doesn't want any books by Nachtwey or Salgado - if, on
the other hand, you view it as a medium that can force people to confront
the ugliness in the world, the reality of the world, and at least think
about it, then their books deserve a place on every coffee table.

Mr. Nachtwey is by most accounts the preeminent photojournalist of our age.
But do  you really want a  coffee table book of horrror?   I wouldn't want
my
nine-year-old  to see it, and I think my in-laws would become ill. By some
thinking, Nachtwey wanted a book that would not be easy to put away, ie,
forgotten. I'm waiting to find one at a discount, say $75 instead of $125.
