Thanks for the kind advice to all those who responded. I have now decided to
get
the older version of this lens and will attach my Silvestri 100mm filter
holder using an 82mm adaptor ring.

This filter holder allows for 110 degree angle of illumination (the Elmarit
is 96 degrees) and will not harm the front element in any way.
